How to write a best man speech?
A friend is getting married soon and I’m the best man. Need a few ideas for the speech – need to figure out the structure of the speech. Friend’s last name is Wright, so I thought it would be funny to say something like that – “Today we celebrate the day that SOANDSO is finally WRIGHT (RIGHT), I mean…A Wright.”
1) Open with a funny joke (not the one you wrote – so lame)
2) Bring up a fond memory but not an embarrassing one.
3) Say how much SHE has changed him for the better & you’ve never seen him smile like he does when he’s with her.
4) Tell her she’s beautiful & he will make her very happy
5) Ending with a toast.

My wedding where I was given the best toast ever.
There are several places where you find out the traditional order of such a speech – who to thank, when to toast etc, Google should handle that for you.
Keep things short and snappy – don’t drone on for too long! Bear in mind that you’re talking to two families (to whom you may well be a stranger) as well as the couple’s friends, so tone down the in-jokes that only a few people will get. Gentle mocking of the groom is usually mandatory.
As for the name gag, how about…
“You know, *bridesmaid* and I were talking about how the two of them got together, and she told me that ever since she’s known *bride*, that *bride* had been looking and looking for MR RIGHT.
I said to her, his name’s in the phone book, how hard could it be?”

Best Man Speeches

I liked the Wright/right jokes – both of them. Makes the best man speech more personal. In starting with a joke is always better than with thank yous and introductions.
