Whoever thought that it was a good idea to make the groom prepare his own speech days before his wedding probably have overlooked the fact that he other things to take care of. The groom attends to the entire wedding preparations, the honeymoon, the wedding party, and even coordinates with his wife-to-be in picking the people who would be invited to their wedding. But, it would help a lot if you could get the help of another person to look over your speech. This could help a lot in the editing stage. Getting the help of another person, usually one of your groomsmen or closest friends, could help a lot in creating the speech as you want to it be.
Remember to incorporate the essentials of a groom’s speech. While there really are no hard and fast rules when writing groom speaches, there are, however, some things that are commonly found in the speech.
There should be an opening line that is warm enough, if not funny, to encourage the listeners to lend you their ears. Any introductory line, may it be an interesting story, a short and funny anecdote, or an entertaining one liner – will do. Alternatively, you can also welcome your guests to the wedding reception and thank them for their generosity and kindness in general.
Once you’re passed this part, you can continue on with complimenting your wonderful wife. This is also the ideal time to offer her your gifts. After which, a toast to your wife may be needed. Your next lines should mention your wife’s parents. Returning the toast of your bride’s father is appropriate and could be followed with some kind remarks for your mother-in-law. Mention your family, thank them as well. After this, continue with sending out you appreciation to the people who have helped in the wedding preparations. Then proceed with the ending of your groom speaches.
