Q1: What have you listened to from this list?
Q2: What one is your favorite?
Q3: Least favorite?
Q4: Do you have a list of snubs? put them here.
Q5: Who would you like to see win?
Q6: Who do you think is the odds on favorite to win?
Q7: What do you think of this overall list as a sample of the best in British and Irish music in the last year?

Feel free to answer any or all of the above questions… feel free to add your own if you wish. They’re merely there to spark discussion.

In order to be eligible for the Mercury Prize, the album must be released by a British or Irish artist or band between July ’08 and July ’09.
too serious for this early in the morning?
or is British music just that unpopular in the States….
no shame… I’ve only heard 5 of them, and only own 2 of the albums myself.
Wire & String: Third came out in late April.
But it got snubbed last year – not even a nomination (Elbow – The Seldom Seen Kid, a very underrated album, won it – beating out Radiohead, British Sea Power, Burial, Robert Plant & Alison Kraus, the Last Shadow Puppets, Adele, and a few other albums I still have yet to hear).

Q1: What have you listened to from this list?
Bat for Lashes – Two Suns
Florence & The Machine – Lungs
Friendly Fires – Friendly Fires
Glasvegas – Glasvegas
Kasabian – West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum
The Horrors – Primary Colours
Q2: What one is your favorite?
Kasabian – West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum
Q3: Least favorite?
Bat for Lashes – Two Suns
Q4: Do you have a list of snubs? put them here.
Kaiser Chiefs "Off With Their Heads"
White Lies "To Lose My Life…" I know they’re criticized for being derivative but I liked this album more than some on that list despite the occasional sense of deja vu it causes.
Q5: Who would you like to see win?
Kasabian – West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum ….don’t worry Waves I doubt they’ll win so you won’t have to soil a perfectly pristine barf bag.
Q6: Who do you think is the odds on favorite to win?
Glasvegas – Glasvegas
Q7: What do you think of this overall list as a sample of the best in British and Irish music in the last year? Probably not. There is always something else out there that just hasn’t been celebrated yet.

I really liked The Horrors new album. Its completely different than their last one which could be disruptive for a fan. But I think that they do it so well its difficult not to just accept the change and enjoy.

OK, I’m not really familiar with these bands. I’ve heard of a few of them, but I’ve heard very little to nothing by them.

    ^^^ Best Answer, right there

In all honesty, some of the names on the list seem familiar, but that’s it.

Third didn’t even get a nomination? Tragic.

  8. I have listened to any of those albums, but bands yes. Can’t WAIT to get Kasabian’s new album though!

Anyway, out of what I’ve heard from the list, I would say decent, but kind of ‘meh’. Florence and the Machine are pretty good, and La Roux seems -kind of- promising, well.

Q1: None of the albums, but bands – Kasabian, Bat for Lashes, La Roux, Glasvegas, Florence and the Machine.

    Q2: Kasabian

    Q3: I don’t like Glasvegas..

Q4: Do you have a list of snubs? I don’t believe I do.

Q5: Kasabian! I can not wait to hear this album, their new songs are brilliant.

Q6: I dunno, probably Glasvegas or Florence & the Machine.

    Q7: Ehhhhh.

  11. Q1: What have you listened to from this list?
Bat for Lashes – Two Suns
Florence & The Machine – Lungs
    Friendly Fires – Friendly Fires
    Glasvegas – Glasvegas
Kasabian – West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum
    La Roux – La Roux
    The Horrors – Primary Colours

Q2: What one is your favorite?
    The Horrors or Kasabian

    Q3: Least favorite?
Glasvegas (sorry but i find their music so boring)

Q4: Do you have a list of snubs? put them here.
I would like to say franz ferdinand but as their latest album was no where near as good as their other two although it has it’s good bits and they’ve already won it before they were’t going to get picked

Q5: Who would you like to see win?
The horrors because they aren’t that well known and this is their 2nd album

Q6: Who do you think is the odds on favorite to win?
florence and the machine or bat for lashes because they are the sort of arty unusual artists that are often overlooked and i think they will pick a female artist this year because this year has been kind of dominated by them

Q7: What do you think of this overall list as a sample of the best in British and Irish music in the last year?
Alot of female vocalists which sums up this year, lots of new female singers (la roux, little boots, florence and the machine ect.) aswell as others who have done really well this year and deserve to be recognised more
