BEST MAN SPEECH ARRRRRRR ? ? ? HELP ME PLEASE?

September 1, 2010

HEY im best man for my brothr any pointers on making a speech what to say what jokes to crack ?

OK… Take a deep breath… We can get you through this.

I’ve written an article on my website The Doomed Groom that gives advice on how to give a really good best man speech. In it, there are several big pointers, namely:

- Make sure you write it well beforehand. That way you can edit it down and really make sure that what you want to say is being communicated.

- Re-write it. Sure, you may think that what you’ve got is perfect. It’s not. Give it another pass and make sure that all the fat is cut and that it’s as clean and streamlined as you can make it.

- Memorize it. SERIOUSLY. This is an absolute must. There is nothing more painful than watching some poor guy stand up at the dais and "Ummm" and "Uhhhhh" for ten minutes while he’s trying to remember what he wanted to say. Trust me, the time you invest in memorizing the speech will more than make up for itself in the response you get from the audience.

- A little liquid courage. OK, I didn’t tell you this… But, it might be a good idea to get a drink in you. MIGHT be a good idea. Something to take a little bit of the edge off. Just make sure that you don’t have too much. That’ll just make you sloppy and people will be laughing for a completely different (not so good) reason. (This also assumes that you are of legal drinking age.)

As for jokes — that’s really tough. I always think that funny stories are a lot more effective than "jokes." I think the audience is going to be a lot more receptive to listening to you speak about a funny situation that happened with the two of you than listening to a bunch of gags strung together. The main thing is, though — have a theme or point. Start from what you want to say about him as a person, brother, husband, etc., then make sure that the funny story comes from there.

As an example, in my article (which I’ve sited below) you will find the speech my best man gave me at my wedding. To this day, the people who were there still consider it to be one of the best toasts they’ve ever heard. You will see — first of all, that it was written beforehand and then memorized — but also that he crafted the humor to really say something from his heart about my wife and I. If you start from there, you really can’t go wrong.

I hope this helps!

What is the best marriage toast that a brother(best man)can give the groom(brother)??Katie Curic did onebut??

September 1, 2010

I think things like this should come from the heart. If this is for you, then think about your brother, did you grow up together? I know when my sister gets married, I will make the whole room cry.

You could use something like this:

There are hundreds of stars glow at night in the pretty sky,
Hundreds of shells wash on the shore as water goes by,
Hundreds of birds that hum the songs of joy and tears,
Hundreds of birds in the sunny weather fly without fears.
Hundreds of dewdrops to greet the dawn every day,
Hundreds of butterflies on the lawn frolic and play,
Hundreds of bees buzz in the perfect purple clover,
But there is only one brother for me, the wide world over.

May God bless your union like He has blessed me with such a wonderful brother, good luck and congratulations.
I love you!

Best Man Speech Ice Breaker Suggestions?

September 1, 2010

2 Questions:

1. I am the FEMALE best man for my friend’s wedding next month. I need to make two speeches because they are having two ceremonies. I just need a good ice breaker that will get a good laugh and not be lewd since the first ceremony is a religious one.

2. At the religious ceremony, it is more catered towards the groom’s family so I wanted to mentioned someone on that side who had passed away. The groom’s mother died a year ago and I wanted to mention her in the speech, like saying how she would be proud of her son and stuff like that and compare her a little bit to the bride. Would that be appropriate or no? I used to go over to their house a lot when I was younger so I’ve spoken to his mom a few times but I wasn’t very close with her. She was always a nice lady.
Thanks!

"We all love (groom’s name) and know that he set’s very high standards for himself in everthing he does, so it came as NO surprise when he asked (bride’s name) to marry him. Since (bride’s name) also has very high standards, it came as a HUGE surprise that she accepted"

I usually see references to past family members as opart of teh invocation/prayer before the meal, when you say something about "all of those who are no longer with us who loved "bride name" and "groom name." That way no one is offended that you may have left someone out.

If you ran for President, would the best man at your wedding endorse you?

September 1, 2010

Former Republican Senator William Cohen of Maine served as best man at McCain’s wedding. He has pointedly refused to endorse anyone so far saying he is very attracted to the idea of an Obama presidency. His wife has already publicly endorsed Obama.

If you can’t get your best man‘s endorsement, aren’t you in a lot of trouble?

Wow. If that doesn’t show how much Republicans dislike McCain, I don’t know what else could.

Public Enemy, also known as PE, is an influential hip hop group from Long Island, New York, known for its politically charged lyrics and criticism of the American media, with an active interest in the frustrations and concerns of the African American community.

In 2004, Rolling Stone Magazine ranked Public Enemy number forty-four on its list of the Immortals: 100 Greatest Artists of All Time. Acclaimed Music ranks them the 29th most recommended musical act of all time and the highest hip-hop group. The group was inducted into the Long Island Music Hall of Fame in 2007.

Chuck D put out a tape to promote WBAU (the radio station where he was working at the time) and to fend off a local mc who wanted to battle him. He called the tape Public Enemy #1 because he felt like he was being persecuted by people in the local scene.

This was the first reference to the notion of a public enemy in any of Chuck D’s songs. The single was created by Chuck D with a contribution by Flavor Flav, though this was before the group Public Enemy was officially assembled.

According to Chuck, The S1W, which stands for Security of the First World, “represents that the black man can be just as intelligent as he is strong. It stands for the fact that we’re not third-world people, we’re first-world people; we’re the original people [of the earth].”

On the track “Louder Than a Bomb” from It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back, Chuck D reveals that the D in his nickname stands for Dangerous.

Developing his talents as an MC with Flavor Flav while delivering furniture for his father’s business, Chuck D (Carlton Douglas Ridenhour) and Spectrum City, as the group was called, released the record “Check out the Radio,” backed by “Lies,” a social commentary—both of which would influence RUSH Productions’ Run-D.M.C. and Beastie Boys. The group was signed to the still developing Def Jam Recordings record label after co-founder Rick Rubin heard Chuck D freestyling on a demo.

Around 1986, Bill Stephney, the former Program Director at WBAU, was approached by Rubin and offered a position with the label. Stephney accepted, and his first assignment was to help Rubin sign Chuck D, whose song “Public Enemy Number One” he had heard from Andre “Doctor Dré” Brown. According to the book The History of Rap Music by Cookie Lommel, “Stephney thought it was time to mesh the hard-hitting style of Run DMC with politics that addressed black youth. Chuck recruited Spectrum City, which included Hank Shocklee, his brother Keith Shocklee, and Eric “Vietnam” Sadler, collectively known as the Bomb Squad, to be his production team and added another Spectrum City partner, Professor Griff, to become the group’s Minister of Information. With the addition of Flavor Flav and another local mobile DJ named Terminator X, the group Public Enemy was born.” Public Enemy opened for The Beastie Boys on some of their East Coast concerts, including Philadelphia, Newark and Brooklyn.
